| The Inline Six Ford Falcon engines were
a reliable and sturdy workhorse in their day with a solid reputation for both simply cruising around right up to a good towing motor. The Falcon Six came in two sizes - the 200ci and 250ci but were built on the same sized, and almost identical, block. The 250ci motor has a longer stroke which creates a greater capacity and so a greater horsepower output. The engine block, cylinder head and crankcase are cast iron with the cylinders numbered 1 to 6 from the front. There is a 12-value (Inlet / Exhaust) overhead cam arrangement with the camshaft driven by chain and sprockets from the crankshaft. The crankshaft and flywheel are supported by seven main bearings. The pistons have two compression rings and an oil ring with the connecting rods of H section forged steel. The electrical system is 12 volts with coil and alternator. The engine oil capacity is 8 pints (4.5L) with a radiator (coolant) capacity of 15 pints (8.5L). |

| The Inline Six Ford Falcon engines in
the XC model range from 1976 remained overall, generally the same as its XA-XB predecessors. The most obvious difference to the eye on lifting the bonnet now is the re-shaped, elongated air filter housing and the addition of several tubes and fittings for emission control requirements. In conjunction with this, the sixes also now had 'cross-flow cylinder heads' for greater efficiency. The Falcon Six came in two sizes - the 3.3L and 4.1L but were built on the same sized, and almost identical, block. The 4.1L motor has a longer stroke which creates a greater capacity and so a greater horsepower output. The engine block, cylinder head and crankcase are cast iron with the cylinders numbered 1 to 6 from the front. There is a 12-value (Inlet / Exhaust) overhead cam arrangement with the camshaft driven by a morse chain and sprockets from the crankshaft. The crankshaft and flywheel are supported by seven main bearings. The pistons have two compression rings and an oil ring with the connecting rods of H section forged steel. The electrical system is 12 volts with coil and alternator. The engine oil capacity is 4.5 litres with a radiator (coolant) capacity of 8.5 litres. Emission control is accomplished with four new systems: 1) Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) - a closed system that uses fresh air drawn from the air filter housing to force pollutant fumes from the crank housing into the inlet manifold. 2) Controlled Combustion System (CCS) - an intake air pre-heating system in the air filter housing. 3) Evaporative Control System (ECS) - reduces vapour loss from the vehicle's fuel tank and carburettor by trapping vapours which are then fed into in the induction system. 4) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) - circulates up to 15% of exhaust gases back through the cylinders reducing engine pollutants. |
